Websites are the best sources of up-to-date information on the rules and regulations governing the management and care of laboratory animals. In addition to the sites listed below, many university websites have excellent resources and links for animal use and care.

Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. “The Guide” can be viewed free online (one chapter at a time) or purchased from the National Academy Press at http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=12910 The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals provides a framework for the judgments required in the management of animal facilities.

AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. http://www.alnmag.com/ Subscribe to ALN Magazine. The ALN website has handy tabs with links for facility design, equipment, biocontainment, training, regulations, and tips. For example, the regulations tab has summaries of recent changes in regulations governing the use of lab animals.
