Executive Vice President’s Report

Al Kertz, PhD, PAS, Dpl. ACAS

ARPAS is about creating a culture of integrity in our industry by virtue of our commitment to a code of ethics and maintaining professional accreditation.  Membership is the key element because it contributes to our critical mass in the industry.  Thus, membership has to be the key objective in a multi-faceted approach.

Executive Vice President’s Report

Kenneth Cummings, PhD, PAS, Dipl. ACAS

“What motivates retired people to want to take on part-time work? They need some place to go, they want to be needed, they need the money, they have a cause they care about------or retirement is really just a figment of one’s imagination. I can eliminate most of these very quickly and say if I did not believe in the mission of ARPAS, the business of agriculture and the continuance of my long-term association with friends and associates, I would not be a very happy person. I can also add that my wife would be very unhappy also. Thanks for rescuing me.”

Executive Vice President’s Report

Kenneth Cummings, PhD, PAS, Dipl. ACAS

What a difference a year makes? I state this in the form of a question that we all need to answer regarding our personal and professional lives. One year ago, COVID-19 was not a factor in our individual worlds. Now, a year later, it dominates them. The same can be said for ARPAS.

Executive Vice President’s Report

Kenneth Cummings, PhD, PAS, Dipl. ACAS Nutrition

This report provides a brief accounting of my activities on behalf of ARPAS since our meeting with ASAS in Austin, Texas, in 2019. Without a doubt, the past few months have been filled with the most world-changing events of our lifetime. Being older than most of our members, that is quite a long time for me. ARPAS, as an organization, was affected as well and your leadership is diligently working to adapt to our new environment.

This report is divided into two parts. The first part will focus on some of the changes that have been made since early March to allow us to function as an organization given the constraints we now face.

Executive Vice President’s Report

Kenneth Cummings, PhD, PAS, Dipl. ACAN

Another decade for ARPAS has been completed and it is time to measure our accomplishments and admit to our shortcomings over that period of our 35-year history. I have been the Executive Vice-President for this entire decade so I will accept my share of accolades for the successes, as well as the penalties for the failures. In my University teaching days, letter grades were used to measure an individual’s performance, so I think it is only fair to ask each of you to “grade” ARPAS, and also me, as to how well we met your needs and expectations.

Executive Vice President’s Report

Kenneth Cummings, PhD, PAS, Dipl. ACAN

This report provides a brief accounting of my activities on behalf of ARPAS since our meeting with ADSA in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2018. Without a doubt, this past 12-month period has seen the most events, conference calls, emails, meetings, and other activities in the 35-year existence of ARPAS.

I want to acknowledge and thank our 2018–2019 president, Andy Cole, for the many hours that he devoted to activities and decisions required to manage this organization. He skillfully handled two major issues of lasting importance to ARPAS by appointing and leading two committees, one to address development of a “Value Proposition” for ARPAS members and the other for continuing publication of our newly renamed journal. Details on the actions of these committees will be covered in this report. In addition, he represented ARPAS at the ASAS meeting in Vancouver, BC, and the California Chapter meeting at Harris Ranch.

Remember, 16 CEUs are required each year to maintain your registration, and up to 16 CEUs can be carried over to the following year.

Executive VP Report

Kenneth R. Cummings, Dipl. ACAN

Relative to maturity, ARPAS is in middle-age but still in good health.  We continuing to add new members and address new ways to add value for our member and our profession.  Ten years ago, our testing process used only paper exams.  Our work consisted of evaluating educational programs for CEU credit, working on a strategic plan and assisting the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to train ARPAS members for on-farm feed management evaluation.  ARPAS had five active Chapters but the bulk of our ARPAS members had no regional chapter affiliation and could not participate ARPAS associated activities.
