Can any ARPAS Member Give ARPAS Exams?

The answer is YES! As an ARPAS member in good standing you are fully commissioned to administer ARPAS exams to individuals seeking membership at the RAS and PAS levels. Board certification examinations can also be administered by members that are certified in a specific discipline.

When you joined ARPAS, you agreed to abide by a code of ethic as a professional animal scientist. This code also extends to other activities of our registry including the examination process:

ARTICLE IV. Code of Ethics.

Section 1. A Professional Animal Scientist is an individual deemed by ARPAS to have met stipulated standards of education, training and experience to practice the profession of the Animal Sciences.Professional Animal Scientists will uphold the ARPAS Code of Ethics. Copies of this Code are to be provided to all members and associate members during the application process.

Section 2. Rights and Obligations

  1. Members are authorized to identify themselves, as appropriate, as PAS, Associate PAS or Emeritus PAS, and to proclaim Board Certification by discipline (e.g. PAS, Diplomate ACAN) after name and degree. Any additional categories established by the Governing Council shall be assigned appropriate identifiers for use by those members.

  2. Members are invited and urged to participate in the activities and advancement of ARPAS, including service on boards and committees when opportunities permit.

All you have to do is call or email Susie Rahn at the ARPAS business office (217-356-5390 or arpas@assochq.org) and give her the person’s name and your name. Tell her which exam they wish to take. She will send you the appropriate exam as well as an application form for membership in ARPAS.

You can administer the exam on your schedule and return it, along with the application and an examination fee of $25, to Susie for grading. She will then notify the individual whether they passed the exam and request transcripts and the annual fee for membership (prorated by month of membership). You can also give Executive VP Kenneth Cummings a call or email if you have questions regarding this process (609-397-5348 or Kennethrosscummings@msn.com)
