The ARPAS symposium “An evaluation of water requirements for beef production” was hosted at the American Society of Animal Science and Canadian Society of Animal Science’s joint 2025 annual meeting in Hollywood, Florida. Special thanks are extended to Arm & Hammer for sponsoring the symposium.
- Glenn Duff, Professor, New Mexico State University, presented information on impacts of declining aquafer levels on production practices in the southern Ogallala region of the United States.
- Mozart Fonseca, Associated Professor, New Mexico State University, discussed technology for measuring water intake by cattle.
- Mozart Fonseca then discussed water intake by feedlot cattle and grazing animals.
There is discussion of preparing a special edition of Applied Animal Science on this topic. In addition, a participant of the symposium has interest in preparing a manuscript for water intake in the northeastern United States.
The 2026 ARPAS symposium will take place at the American Dairy Science Association’s 2026 Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from June 21 to 24, 2026.
