California Chapter Report

On October 28 and 29 we held our annual continuing education conference, a chapter function that began in 1985. This year’s theme was modeling nitrogen metabolism in ruminants and nonruminants. Speakers were John Cant (University of Guelph), Ted Sefton (Alltech), Brian Kerr (USDA-ARS, Ames, IA), Tom Tylutki (ATMS), and Peter Robinson (University of California, Davis). Scholarships were awarded to N. Swanepol, C. Peterson, and N. Gomez, all of whom are graduate students at the University of California, Davis.

Bang for Your Buck, our annual fundraiser, was a success; more than $15,000 was raised for our scholarship and research fund. Organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring the 2016 BYFB may contact any California chapter member for information.

At the CEC we elected new officers for the chapter. Andy Riordan will be serving as chapter president. Riordan has been very active in the chapter over the past eight years, and we feel very confident that the chapter functions and business are in great hands. President-elect is John Martin, Peter Williams will serve as secretary, and Dave Ellis will continue as treasurer. For the next three years Jim Tully will represent the California chapter at national meetings.
