2013 President's Report

Bill Sanchez, Ph.D., Dipl. ACAN

This has been an active year in the ARPAS Organization and I am very grateful to have served as your President. I need to give special thanks to our Executive Committee, especially our Executive Vice President, Dr. Kenneth Cummings for his excellent guidance and thorough attention to all the minute by minute and day to day activities of this organization. I also want to thank the rest of the Governing Council for their hard work and clear vision for moving ARPAS forward. We need to thank and recognize Jeremy Holzner, with FASS for all the work he does administratively for ARPAS. His work on our website, online voting, and the ability to pay dues and update continuing education credits online makes our time more efficient. There are many other individuals that I want to personally thank and appreciate all of you who are responsible for accelerating our pace toward accomplishing many of the goals stated in our recent Strategic Plan.

EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT
ANNUAL GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
July 2013

ARPAS, as an organization, has completed another successful year. We no longer just confine our activities to certification of members, evaluation of programs for continuing education, tracking of continuing education credits and monitoring adherence to our code of ethics. We continue to add those initiatives identified in our strategic plan to better serve our members and the animal science community.

Treasurer’s Report
ARPAS Governing Council
July 2013
Carl Hunt, PhD., PAS, Dipl. ACAN

This report reflects financial information which was available on May 31, 2013. Midyear is a reasonable time to take a snapshot of the revenues and expenses for the Professional Animal Scientist journal. As of May 31st, PAS revenues were $43,463 and expenses were $34,878. The PAS has a very good track record of meeting its own expenses with revenue, which is an important aspect of the financial stability of our organization as the journal represents about 36 percent of our annual budget.

The title of the mini-symposium was “Nanotechnology – Potential Applications in Food, Feed, Agricultural Production, and Research”. The program high-lighted both the benefits and some of the science-based and regulatory challenges associated with the use of nanotechnology.

Northeast ARPAS Chapter Annual Meeting

The Northeast ARPAS Chapter will hold its annual meeting on November 12 during the Penn State Dairy Nutrition Workshop. Mike Hutjens will be the speaker on the topic of Lessons learned working 40 years with dairy clientele. This talk is Mike’s only one during the 2 day conference, and only ARPAS members can attend his talk. Our way of perhaps of showing the ARPAS folks that their membership makes them special!
