Report of the Washington DC Area Chapter of ARPAS

For the second half of 2012/2013, the Washington DC Area Chapter of ARPAS held three monthly luncheon meetings and the dates, speakers, and titles of their presentations were as follows:

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 - Dr. Richard A. Erdman, Professor, Department of Animal and Avian Sciences, University of Maryland – “Dairy Feed Efficiency: Current Limitations and Strategies for Improvement” 

Thursday, February 21, 2013 – Dr. Tom E. Porter, Professor and Chair, Department of Animal and Avian Sciences, University of Maryland – “Developments at the University of Maryland’s Department of Animal and Avian Sciences” 

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 – Dr. Jessica L. Meisinger, Director of Scientific Education and Communication, National Renderers Association, Inc. – “Rendering 101”

The Washington DC Area Chapter of ARPAS will be holding their half-day mini-symposium on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in the Conference Room of Building 005 at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. The theme for the mini-symposium is “Nanotechnology – Potential Applications in Food, Feed, Agricultural Production, and Research”.

Following the mini-symposium, the Washington DC Area Chapter of ARPAS and the University of Maryland – National Capital Area Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta will be holding their joint banquet and awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn in College Park, Maryland. The cost of attending the mini-symposium is $35.00 and the cost of attending the banquet is $35.00. Attendance for both the mini-symposium and banquet is $65.00 per individual. Attendees can register at the door for the mini-symposium, however, reservations for the banquet must be received by Monday, April 22nd.
